When will people realize some race jokes can be harmless AND funny (if accompanied by a small dose of humor)?
I don't get it. I hear jokes about the Asians all the time, and unless they reflect a poor sense of humor or are just not funny, I laugh along. Sure, race jokes play on stereotypes, but that's the beauty of it: race jokes make fun of the characteristics found in MOST people of a particular race (not ALL), and you can always convince yourself you're the oddball of the aforementioned race.
Racial jokes can be harmless if the stereotype they are based on is relatively harmless AND the person hearing it is secure and has a strong sense of self. A joke featuring a Chinese over-achiever may be funny to a Chinese student with a 4.0 average but it can be very hurtful to if he has a learning disability.
Negative stereotypes can be even trickier. Even if the listener seems to be the exception or is not of that racial or ethnic group, they may have friends or family who fit the stereotype.
It is best to just avoid telling these kind of jokes. At best they reinforce stereotyping and many times they can be devastating to other people.

Grow up! Jokes at the expense of another person's race, handicap, sex, shortcomings, etc., are NOT FUNNY! If you think "that's the beauty of it," as you said, I wonder how hearty you would be laughing if someone told one at YOUR expense. And please don't come back with, oh, I'd be laughing along with everyone else. That's BS! I hope your sense of humor matures because right now, it's at the level of a young child!

I agree, some racial humor is funny. Have you watched the Kumars on BBC?
We've gone overboard on being p.c. It's imprtant to be able to laugh at oneself. As a Scot, I hear lots of jokes about tight fisted Scots, or heavy drinking Scots. Most of these jokes are not told with malice, and that's how they should be received.
Stop looking for offense where none is intended.
